Liberia Ministries Explore 90-Day Youth Peacebuilding Pilot Focused on Wellbeing and Reintegration

MONROVIA, Liberia — November 7, 2026 — Liberia’s Ministries of Youth and Sports and Foreign Affairs are exploring a partnership that would use facilitated discussions, community engagement and referral support to strengthen young people’s participation in peacebuilding.

The proposal was discussed at an introductory meeting involving Youth and Sports Minister Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and popular Liberian musician CIC, whose public advocacy role is expected to support the government’s youth-wellbeing and peacebuilding efforts.

A proposed pilot for adult young men

The GIVE Foundation has presented a 90-day pilot proposal involving 24 to 30 adult young men in two facilitated discussion groups, with three sessions planned for each group. Potential participants could include rehabilitation graduates, students, workers and artists.

A central feature would be “Cralor Boi Talk,” a series of structured conversations intended to give young men a safe space to discuss mental wellbeing, personal challenges and available support services. The proposal also envisages voluntary participation, confidentiality safeguards and referrals to qualified providers where clinical care is needed.

Other possible activities include a verified directory of mental-health services, referral arrangements, public information through music and radio, and a sports-based community event. The initiative could also produce a youth recommendations brief for dialogue with Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and youth peacebuilders.

How the proposal fits Liberia’s Youth, Peace and Security plan

The discussions are framed around Liberia’s National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security (2025–2029), which the Ministry of Youth and Sports says it is implementing. The plan is intended to turn national commitments into practical opportunities for youth participation in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and development.

The ministries have also connected the proposed collaboration to Liberia’s upcoming December 2026 presidency of the United Nations Security Council. Foreign Affairs Minister Nyanti said demonstrating practical progress at home could strengthen international interest and partnerships during Liberia’s presidency.

The National County Sports Meet final was identified as a possible early platform for communicating the agenda, reflecting the role sport can play in youth participation, unity and national cohesion.

What has—and has not—been agreed

The meeting marks an exploratory step, not the launch of an operational programme. The Ministry of Youth and Sports says the ministries are expected to work with CIC and the GIVE Foundation on a joint implementation framework, possible activities for December and priorities for 2027.

The proposed pilot and related activities remain subject to institutional agreement. Participation arrangements, referral mechanisms and launch dates still require review. No final start date, confirmed participant list or dedicated funding amount was announced in the ministry’s account of the meeting.

Why implementation will matter

The proposal’s practical value will depend on whether young people can access safe, confidential and appropriately supported discussions—and whether referral services are available when participants need professional help. A short pilot can test an approach, but measurable outcomes, clear responsibilities and sustained support will be important if the work is to continue beyond the initial period.

For Liberia, the larger test is whether youth peacebuilding commitments translate into consistent opportunities for young people to shape decisions, strengthen community ties and contribute to national and regional peace efforts.
