MONROVIA, Liberia — The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) has reported that 409 verified volunteer teachers have been enrolled on the national payroll. However, payroll enrollment alone does not confirm that every teacher has received payment or that outstanding salary arrears have been settled.
The Liberian government announced on October 20 that 201 additional MCSS volunteer teachers were expected to enter the national payroll effective October 2026. The announcement also referred to eligible retroactive salaries being paid after the October salary payment.
In a report published October 28, MCSS Superintendent Auguries E. Stevens was reported as saying that 409 verified volunteer teachers had been enrolled. The same report said salary adjustments for another 133 qualified teachers were expected to be pursued through the proposed 2027 national budget.
What remains to be verified?
- Whether all 409 teachers have received their salaries.
- Whether eligible retroactive payments have been made in full and on time.
- Whether salary adjustments for the additional 133 teachers appear in the final 2027 national budget.
These distinctions matter: being listed on a payroll is not the same as receiving wages. HeartTalk Network will treat the announced figures as reported claims until payment records and direct accounts from affected teachers establish the outcome.
